Get your taxes done using TurboTax

You can enter them manually in summary sections.  TurboTax provides this option for exactly this scenario.

The summary sections should be on the first page of your 1099-B.  It will break down the trades into four sections.

The four sections are -

  • Short term covered (owned for less than a year and the basis amount that was reported to the IRS is correct)
  • Short term non-covered (owned for less than a year and the basis amount wasn't reported at all)
  • Long term covered (owned for more than a year and the basis amount that was reported to the IRS is correct)
  • Long term non-covered (owned for more than a year and the basis amount wasn't reported at all)

After you have entered the totals into the sections that appear on your statement (you probably don't have all four) the program will offer you the option to upload a pdf of your 1099-B to attach to the return for submission.
