- After entering your W-2, you will see Let's check for uncommon situations
- Check Religious employment
- On Let's dig in to your religious employment select Clergy
- On OK, tell us about your clergy housing enter your housing allowance and qualifying expenses.
If you are self-employed
- On Your 2021 self-employed work summary, select Add another line of work
- On Tell us the type of self-employment work you do type religious
- On We need a little more info select Clergy services
- Continue until Let's get your clergy or religious sect info
- Choose I need to pay self-employment tax on this income
- On Let's get your clergy or religious sect info enter your housing allowance
SECA tax on a housing allowance is the smaller of
- the amount officially designated (in advance of payment) as a housing allowance;
- the amount actually used to provide or rent a home; or
- the fair market rental value of the home (including furnishings, utilities, garage, etc.).
