Since the school sent the refund checks, you may want to ensure that the amount in Box 1 of your son's 1098-T is not already reduced by $2,000. If it has not, you can include it as other scholarships or grants:
- Open or continue your return
- Select Search and search for 1098t
- Select the Jump to link in the search results
- If you have not yet entered your 1098-T: On the Do you want to enter your higher education expenses? screen, answer Yes. If you already have entered the 1098-T click Edit next to Scholarships/Grants and skip to step 7.
- Answer Yes to Did you get a 1098-T for the year? and Continue
- On the next screen, you can choose how you'd like to add your 1098-T. You can upload a digital copy from your computer or type it in yourself. Select which option you'd like and Continue. Navigate through several more questions.
- Eventually you will get to a screen that asks Did You Receive a Scholarship or Grant in 2021? Answer Yes and then enter $2000 on Other Scholarships/Grants/Fellowships.
