Get your taxes done using TurboTax

If you are self-employed and your home is your primary place of business, you can deduct the costs of the home office portion that is used for operating your business, no costs for space you use as an employee can be deducted.  Only the business portion of those costs would be deductible on your Schedule C business tax return.

You qualify for this deduction if you use part of your home regularly and exclusively for your business. To qualify, your home office must be:

  • Located in a separate area in your home where you don't mix business with other activities
  • Used for business on an ongoing basis, not just once in a while
