If you were claimed by someone as a dependent and you know that no one can claim you, then you have to print, sign and mail your own return. You cannot e-file. The IRS will sort it out. Your mailed return will take longer to be processed, since mailed returns must be handled by humans at the IRS, so do not expect a quick refund.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
