If no taxes are owed or your return has a tax refund, then you have up to three years from the due date of the tax return to file the return. For tax year 2018 the tax return has to be filed on or before April 15, 2022. If an extension request for tax year 2018 was filed and accepted before April 15, 2019, then the 2018 tax return has to be filed on or before October 15, 2022.
