You can only select Form 1040-SR if you are using the CD\Desktop version.
Form 1040 and Form 1040-SR are virtually identical in function. Form 1040-SR was created for people doing their taxes by hand. It has larger type and larger boxes to write numbers in, making it slightly easier for seniors to read and fill out.
The only advantage to using Form 1040-SR is if your doing the form manually. From the IRS end, it will not matter which form they receive and process.
To use Form 1040-SR in the CD\Desktop version:
- Click Forms in the upper right
- Find Info Wks in the left column and double-click
- You will see Federal Information Worksheet
- At the bottom of Part II — Address and Federal Filing Status check the box Print Form 1040-SR instead of Form 1040
