Get your taxes done using TurboTax
You do not have to do anything. @DoninGA is correct, the stimulus payments will automatically not be taxed at the federal level. However, it depends on the state of residency whether it will be taxed. For example, Oregon will tax it.
The stimulus payments are reported in the return in case you did not get the full amount. If there is an amount that you are eligible for and have not received, then it is included in the Recovery Rebate Credit. If you received both payments, then this Credit will calculate accurately as 0.
To return to this area of your return for the Recovery Rebate Credit, if it has not yet been filed, follow these steps:
- Go to the search box and enter stimulus. Click the Jump to link.
- Answer Yes.
- At the next screen, Let's double-check the amount you received, answer No to edit the first-round and second-round amounts.
- If no stimulus amount was received, enter 0. An amount must be entered in each box. When finished, click Continue.
If you have already filed, download the PDF of your return and scroll to page 2, Line 30 to see what was reported as the Recovery Rebate Credit.
- To see the 2020 Form 1040 download, from the left menu, select Tax Home. Then, follow these steps:
- Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and Show.
- Navigate to the option to download the PDF of your return.
- The forms are named in the top left and lower right hand corners of each page.
