What do you mean by "part of his first stimulus was taken?" If you mean it was taken for child support he owed, he cannot get that back now with the recovery rebate credit. If the stimulus was issued to his SSN---even if it was taken-- it must be shown on your 2020 return as having been issued to him.
When you fill out the amounts received for the recovery rebate credit you have to list every cent that was issued--no matter where it ended up.
