Get your taxes done using TurboTax

You have not filed ANY tax returns since 2009?  You will need to use the paper forms available from the IRS for any years earlier than 2014, or seek local professional help--which sounds like a good idea since you probably have a mess.  Do you even have your W-2's, 1099's, etc. from that far back?

TurboTax software is only available for the years back to 2014--and pretty soon 2014 will no longer be supported or available, either.  The only software available will be 2015 onward.  Any returns except for 2017 have to be submitted by mail, and each tax year should be mailed in its own envelope.  Do not combine tax returns for various years on the same tax form.  Each tax year is prepared separately on the form for the specific tax year, and only income for that specific tax year can be entered.  If you live in a state with a state income tax, you will need to catch up on state returns as well.  Forms are most likely available from the state's web site.

To file a return for a prior tax year using TurboTax:

Only a 2017 return can be prepared online and e-filed.

If you need to prepare a return for 2014, 2015, or 2016 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

It is not too late to receive tax refunds for 2015, 2016, or 2017.  You cannot receive tax refunds for any years prior to those years, even if the tax return shows a refund, since the deadline for receiving refunds for those years has passed.
