.....just go back into each of your W-2 forms (in the software), and make sure box 4 is 6.2% of box 3 in the software form....and that it exactly matches what is on your paper/PDF W-2 form  IF box 4 appears to be 6.2% of box 3, then you can probably just ignore the notice.

 

That notice was just installed in the software last night...and it appears to be having some calculation/rounding issues.

 

......just had someone who had to round their box 4  $$$.36  to greater than $$$.50 to clear it out....something stupid like that. so if it's close....ignore it, you can file anyhow as the notice doesn't stop anything.......probably a mistaken notice. The notice doesn't get filed.

But if one of your W-2 forms had box 4 significantly lower than 6.2% of box 3 (more than a couple $) then the employer will regain those SS $$ in this year's wages, and issue a W-2 C at some time in the future (could be many months later).  In most cases, you won't have to amend to include that W-2C at a later date unless they also changed something beyond the box 4 value.
