Nothing can be e-filed right now. E-filing closed after October 31 and the IRS will not begin to accept e-files again until the end of January. If you want to file something before then, print it, sign it and mail it.
And....your friend did not have to wait until a child's amended return was processed. He should have mailed his own return when it was rejected. It is taking the IRS 6 to 7 months to process amended returns.
