And...for future reference:

 

IF, in some future year, you  do successfully  E-file Fed and State forms at the same time...they still end up going to the separate tax agencies ... The Federal one to the IRS, and the state to the state.

 

Even if E-filed at the same time, the state isn't sent until the IRS computer accepts the Federal forms....the computer holds the state forms until the IRS shows accepted.  IF the Federal forms are rejected, then the state forms are automatically rejected and aren't even sent in.   The reason they do that is because some change/correction needed to get  the Federal Forms to go thru, that could affect what is reported on the state forms too.
