Get your taxes done using TurboTax

@Rlacarbonara85

First, you should contact your previous employer or their payroll provider to see if you can get you another copy of your W-2.

If your employer is no longer in business, or you can't reach anyone, call the IRS for assistance at (800) 829-1040.  Be ready to provide the following information to the IRS representative:

  • Your name, address and Social Security number.
  • Your employer's name, address, city, state, zip code and telephone number, even if your employer has gone out of business.
  • Your approximate dates of employment.
  • An approximation of the wages you earned and the federal income tax withheld.  You can base this estimate on your last pay stub of the year, or your earnings statement, if that's available.

You can also request a Wage and Income transcript from the IRS using their Welcome to Get Transcript page.

If you don't receive your W-2 before the filing deadline, you can file using a substitute W-2 form -- Form 4852.  Please see the TurboTax "How do I file a substitute W-2 using Form 4852?" for more information.

REMEMBER:  The federal tax filing deadline has been extended to July 15, 2020.  Please see Is the Tax Deadline Delayed? What to Know About Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Your Taxes for more information.
