For a 2017 tax return you would be using one of the 2017 TurboTax desktop editions. You cannot import a 2017 W-2 since that tax year is no longer available for the importing of tax forms. You have to enter the W-2 manually.
Without knowing what deduction you are referring to there is no way for anyone to give you guidance.
