....ANNND, if you are preparing 2016 using the desktop version...
The 6-digit IP-PIN (Identity Protection PIN) is entered in a special spot during the interview.....in the section << Federal Taxes...<<<Other Tax Situations tab, you'll find it as one of the entries there (If using H&B version, it might be Personal Taxes...Other Tax Situations tab, someone else with that software version may comment on that).
But no matter which software you are using, if you miss it, and since you have to print and mail-file it in yourself anyhow, you can just write it in at the bottom of page 2 of the form 1040 (just to the right side of the Spouse's Occupation box)
