Get your taxes done using TurboTax

If you have gas receipts due to business expenses, you need TurboTax in Home & Business Online or TurboTax in Deluxe or higher in Desktop. Please see the steps below to enter your receipts. 

  1. Select the Federal Taxes tab
  2. Click Wages & Income
  3. I'll choose what to work on (if it appears)
  4. Scroll down to Business Items and click Start or Update
  5. Walk through interview questions regarding your business until you reach the Business Expenses screen
  6. Click Start next to Cars, trucks and other vehicle expenses
  7. Enter your vehicle information until you reach the Standard or Actual Expenses Deduction
  8. Select the Enter Actual expenses option
  9. On the next screen, you can enter gas and other expenses. 

If you are an employee with work-related gas expenses, please see the steps below. 

  1. Select the Federal Taxes tab
  2. Select Deductions and Credits
  3. If the personal experience question populates, select Skip This
  4. Next, select I'll choose what to work on (if the option appears)
  5. On the Your Tax Breaks screen, scroll down to Employment Expenses and click Show More
  6. Click Job-Related Expenses
  7. Walk through the interview question. The software will ask if you have vehicle expense. Select Yes. From here you will walk through all expenses related to your vehicle, including gas.
