Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Once you successfully file your tax return using the TurboTax software and they accept, the IRS and/or your state handle the processing of the returns and your refund approval. It's out of TurboTax's hand once the return goes through successfully.

However, you can try using a taxpayer advocate to see if they can speed the process for you. You can go to this website to locate a Taxpayer Advocate in your area http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate. You can also call this toll-free number to find out if TAS (Taxpayer Advocate Services) can help you: 1-877-777-4778.

This could happen no matter which software (or tax preparer) you use to prepare your returns. Sometimes they just need to make sure there is no fraud being committed. And their selection is random most times.

In the meantime, you will continue to check the status on the IRS's Where's My Refund site. They will update status there once they are done with processing your return. They do not provide any updates to TurboTax after they have accepted your return.

If you decide not to enlist help of taxpayer advocate, the IRS states it can take up to 9 weeks. If after 9 weeks you don't hear anything, you will call them at the IRS tax refund hotline at 800-829-4477, Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Or, call the 24-hour assistance number at 800-829-1040.
