Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Yes you can.  The IRS will know that you have an extension request approved so you can use another tax professional or you can use tax preparation software to complete and file your tax return.  There is no entry of the extension request form on a tax return.

You can start on a 2016 tax return using the TurboTax online editions at this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

Or you can purchase a CD or Download of the 2016 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/

Using TurboTax you can e-file a 2016 tax return up through October 16, 2017.  After that date the 2016 tax return will have to be printed and mailed.  Or you can print and mail a 2016 tax return at any time.

If you paid any taxes owed with the extension request, then you need to enter the amount paid on your tax return.  The payment made with the extension request will be included on your tax return as a tax payment, Form 1040 Line 70, Form 1040A Line 46.
