Get your taxes done using TurboTax
If you do not have the physical W-2 in hand yet, you may be able to import your W-2 from your employer, if your employer meets below requirements. The W-2 doesn't come from the IRS, that comes from your employer.
Requirements to successfully import your W-2 directly from your employer
- Your payroll provider needs to be a TurboTax Import Partner (we determine this by your employer's EIN)
- Your W-2 must be available for import – most are ready by February 1, and some are disabled after the April filing deadline. The IRS requires your employer to send you a W-2 no later than January 31 if they are mailing it to you.
- We'll need the Box 1 amount from your W-2
- You can also use the YTD (Year to Date) gross income from your year-end paystub. More info
- In some cases, we'll need the Box d Control Number from your W-2, but only if your payroll provider requires this for the import (not all of them do).
NOTE: If you have an issue with importing due to having a blank Box d Control Number, you will just click skip import and then manually enter your W-2.
If you have that information listed above, you can use steps here below to help you with the import.
