Your W-4 is just a form you give your employer to indicate how much tax you want them to withhold. It does not go to the IRS nor does it dictate how you file your tax return. If you are Single, then you will only get your own personal exemption on your tax return. But beware--you had less tax withheld when you put those extra exemptions on the W-4 at work. That means your take home check was more, but now you might owe if you did not have enough withheld to pay you tax liability.
