Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I guess I'm confused. In 2023, I filed taxes for both parents, since my dad had just over eleven months of income. Where the signature blank is located, it says "filing as surviving spouse," and it was filed as married filing jointly. Is this not correct?
The tax return you filed in 2023 was for tax year 2022. On the 2022 tax return you should have indicated Married Filing Jointly. And your mother's signature as Surviving spouse on the Form 1040.
For tax year 2023 that you filed in 2024, your mother would file as Single. For tax year 2024 that you file in 2025 your mother would file as Single.
