Yes, the maximum amount of your social security income that is taxed is 85%. If you look at lines 6a and 6b of your form 1040, you should see that box a is only 85% of box b.
If you are seeing more than that taxed, did you enter it in the correct spot? To enter your 1099-SSA by selecting the following:
- Income
- Your Retirement
- Start next to 1099-SSA, social security
