Get your taxes done using TurboTax

A 2022 return cannot be e-filed.  The only way you can file a 2022 return now is by mail. It has to be printed, signed and dated in ink, and it has to be mailed in.   If it was rejected last year when you tried to e-file, then you would need to look at the email you received months ago when it was rejected.  Most rejections are for AGI, and you only need AGI in order to e-file.  Since you cannot possibly e-file 2022 now, AGI does not matter.

As for why your 2023 is being rejected--you have to look at the rejection message your are getting---but again--it is likely that 2023 is being rejected for AGI, since you did not even file 2022 and the IRS has no 2022 AGI in its system for you.

Your 2022 return has to be filed by mail.    When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If your 2023 was rejected for AGI, then you can try using zero for AGI and e-file again.  If it still rejects, then print, sign and mail 2023.  Do not put 2022 and 2023 in the same envelopes.
