Get your taxes done using TurboTax
It depends on the laws of the state(s) involved. Typically, this is all handled automatically in TurboTax. If a prorated personal exemption is required by the state(s) you are filing in, TurboTax will prorate per the state rules. Most, if not all, states that prorate exemptions use the same proration factor as used for the state tax (allocated income/total income). So once you have done the allocations TurboTax can/will calculate any required prorations. If you post the states involved someone may be able to provide the specifics for those states.
