Get your taxes done using TurboTax
You do not add your divorce decree to an income tax return. If you were divorced before the end of 2023, then you file using your new filing status----you are now either Single or maybe Head of Household if you are the custodial parent of the children. There is no place on a tax return to even say you are divorced. The software will ask some questions about your marital status in order to navigate you to certain areas of the software, but "divorced " is not a filing status.
Your filing status is determined by whatever your situation was on the last day of 2023.
Your choices for filing status are Single, Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, Head of Household, or Qualified Surviving Spouse.
