Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Some of the most common reasons why a return can not be e-filed are as follows:
- They contain overrides.
- There is no taxable income.
- You have a W-2 where box 1 is blank or the box 16 amount is greater than the box 1 amount.
- Your return contains IRS forms or schedules not on the accepted Forms and Schedules list.
- Your return contains non-final forms.
- Your return is for a prior-year or amended return.
Many nonresident and part-year state returns also cannot be e-filed. TurboTax will let you know if your return must be paper-filed.

If you selected Transmit My Return Now and it doesn't work, you may need to troubleshoot your web browser.
You can do this by following the steps below:
- Turn off any pop-up blockers.
- Try using a different web browser. For example, if you're using Chrome, try using Firefox or Safari instead.
- Delete your browser cookies.
If you're not able to e-file because your tax forms aren't ready yet, forms are released by state and federal tax authorities on different dates throughout the year.
You can check form availability here: Tax form availability tool.
