Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Someone here in the forum may be able to provide assistance for your experience.  Please clarify what TurboTax product you are using and what you are seeing.  I understand your experience is related to the Eligible VA Educator deduction.

That deduction found in the "Income" section of your VA state interview is the lesser of $500 or your educator expenses entered in the federal "Deductions & Credits" section minus the federal deduction received on your federal return.  Below is an extract from the VA form 760 Instructions.  Are you not getting that deduction with your entries?

"Deduction for Eligible Educators- For taxable years beginning on and after January 1, 2022, but before January 1, 2025, an individual income tax deduction is allowed of up to $500 for the amount actually paid or incurred for eligible educator qualifying expenses.

An “Eligible educator” is an individual who for at least 900 hours during the taxable year served as a Virginia licensed teacher, instructor, student counselor, special needs personnel, principal, or student aide for public or private primary and secondary school students in Virginia.

“Qualifying expenses” are defined as 100 percent of the amount paid or incurred by an eligible educator during the taxable year for participation in professional development courses and the purchase of books, supplies, computer equipment (including related software and services), other educational equipment, and supplementary materials used directly in an individual’s service to students as an eligible educator, provided that such purchases were neither reimbursed nor claimed as a deduction on the eligible educator’s federal income tax return for the taxable year."
