Why do you need an IP PIN because your mother is claiming you as a dependent?

Do you actually need an IP PIN? If you did not have one in the past, if your mother is trying to enter you on her return and came to the section asking for the IP PIN, that can be skipped for you if one was never issued for you. If one was issued, you can click here to Retrieve you IP PIN.
Do you not qualify as her dependent and you are trying to stop her from claiming you? If so, when you file your return, all you need to do is NOT check the box that says someone can claim me as a dependent. If you do not say someone can claim you they will not be able to claim you. However, if you are a dependent of your mothers, you MUST say she can claim you as this makes you ineligible for certain credits, even if she does NOT claim you.
