Get your taxes done using TurboTax
We are very sorry for your loss. You certainly do not need to use TurboTax if you do not want to. TurboTax does not have your spouse's W-2's. W-2's come from employers. You need to call the employers, email them, or even snail mail them to ask for the W-2's and give them the address to mail them to. Or if you have to, use the alternate methods of getting the W-2 information.
Just so you will know---wherever you prepare the 2023 tax return--- for the year in which your spouse passed away, you can still file a joint tax return. That will make more of your income "tax free" because you will still get the married filing jointly standard deduction of $27,700 (+$1500 for each spouse 65 or older). If you have a qualified dependent, you will be able to file as a qualified surviving spouse for 2024 and 2025 and get that higher standard deduction for those years too. If you do not have a dependent then for 2024 you will file as Single.
We wish the best for you during this difficult time.
