We need more details. Did you try to e-file and get a rejection for the Social Security number? If someone even accidentally used your spouse's SSN and filed a tax return, that could cause your own e-file to be rejected. If that happens, the only way you can file is by mail. You have to print, sign and date the return in ink, and mail it in. The IRS will sort out the duplicate use of the SSN.
