Get your taxes done using TurboTax
It was our understanding that e-filing would not be allowed until sometime on January 4; however, if TurboTax allowed you to e-file already tonight, it would not be the first time we "volunteers" were left out of the loop of management decisions. If in fact you really did e-file, you are stuck. Your return will be sitting on a server for a few weeks until the IRS begins to accept/reject e-files. You cannot make any changes while your return is on that server. If they finally reject it, celebrate -- because then you can delete that wrong income information and replace it with the correct 2023 W-2 income and re-file. If they accept it, you will wait a lot longer. You will wait until the IRS fully processes the return and then you will have to prepare and file an amended return on a Form 1040X to correct the income you entered.
Did you e-file? Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?
Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”
Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself. TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.
