Get your taxes done using TurboTax

What does it show in your account?   If your account shows that your 2020 return was "rejected" then it was not filed unless you printed it, put it in an envelope, and mailed it in.   Your proof that you paid your tax due would be your own bank or credit card record.

If you did not file your tax return, the only way to file  2020 return now is by mail.   You will need to print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in with your payment of the tax due if you did not pay yet.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If you are getting a refund there is no penalty for filing late; if you owe tax due, then you are subject to late filing penalties and interest owed on the amount shown on line 37 of your Form 1040.  The IRS will bill you for the extra charges when they receive your return and the payment of the amount shown on line 37.
