You sure can prepare and e-file 2022 taxes any time now. Even without an extension.
The 2022 Online software will be up and running until Mid-October.
After that mid-Oct date you would have to buy, download and sue the desktop software...and file on paper.
Just don't wait until the last minute...get it done soon.

Yep, could be penalties and interest if you owe more $$ when you file, but you won't really know that for sure until you are actually done preparing your tax forms.
