I re-read your post and see you say something about a "newer" version. What are you trying to do? It is not possible to update a past year product to prepare a current tax return. Each tax year has its own software written to comply with the tax laws in effect for the specific tax year and using the tax forms for the specific tax year. The current online program is only for 2022--it cannot be used for any other year.
And if you have an old version of the CD/download, you cannot update it to use it for any other year.
