Get your taxes done using TurboTax

The IRS considers you to be self-employed if you receive Form 1099-NEC. Being self-employed simply means no taxes are withheld from your pay.

If no employment taxes are withheld, you are not an employee, so IRS also considers you to be a business. As Tax Champ ee-ea says: “Your shop is one chair big.”

You can deduct expenses, such as chair rental, clippers and other equipment, license renewals, and any other ordinary and necessary business expenses.
