Get your taxes done using TurboTax

You can start by contacting the IRS because normally they would apply your estimated/advance tax payments to your tax return.

  • Contact an IRS customer service representative to correct any agency errors by calling 800-829-1040 (hours of operation 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time)

Another option you can try to obtain is an IRS Transcript, click the link to get started.  A transcript will show whether or not your tax return has posted in the IRS database and your tax payments made.

You will want to get proof of payment from the financial institution or money order copies, whatever you used to make the payments.

You should amend your tax return to include the estimated/advance payments on the return.  Be sure to read all the information in the links below before you begin. TurboTax needs to know the original numbers and the changed corrected numbers.

An additional resource for you may be the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS).  They are in place to assist in situations where you are unable to obtain resolution on your own.

  1. You can click here to begin: TAS Qualifier Tool. or
  2. Submit a request for assistance - Form 911 Request for TAS Assistance (instructions are included)
  3. Locate the local TAS Office for your area

This will get the process started for you.  It's not going to be a fast process because they are handling a large volume at this time.

If you do not hear from TAS within one week of submitting Form 911, contact the Taxpayer Advocate office where you originally submitted your request. Incomplete information or requests submitted to a Taxpayer Advocate office outside of your geographical location may result in delays.
