Enter your T4 slip under foreign income. 

 

If you live outside the U.S. you may be able to claim the foreign earned income exclusion. If you pay Canadian tax, you may be able to claim a foreign tax credit or deduction. Or you maybe able to use both the foreign earned income exclusion and the foreign tax credit or deduction.

 

How to report foreign income:

 

  1. Type foreign income in Search (magnifying glass) in the upper right corner
  2. Click on Jump to foreign income
  3. Complete the foreign income and exclusion questions
  4. On the screen “What Form(s) Was Foreign Income Reported On?” select A statement from my foreign employer (could be cash). You’ll have to convert CAD to USD.

How to claim a credit for Canadian tax:

 

I. Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion

  1. Type foreign income in Search (magnifying glass0 in the top right
  2. Select Jump to foreign income 

II. Foreign Tax Credit

  1. Type foreign tax credit in Search (magnifying glass) in the upper right corner
  2. Select Jump to foreign tax credit
  3. Complete the screens to claim either the credit or deduction
