I’m not clear on what you’re asking, @jmfnw1983. It appears maybe you’ve already filed a federal return with a balance-due, and you paid it, and are now asking about a balance due or refund from a state return (or TurboTax fees?). In that case, we’d definitely need some more specific info about that other thing, and why a refund would be appropriate if it isn’t already in the works.
Or are you possibly referring to taxes you’ve already paid because your employer withheld them, and a result on your federal return that has you paying even more taxes? If so, that’s a common occurrence, which unfortunately has no remedy, except for making sure you’re taking advantage of all legal deductions. The tax return you file reconciles your withholding during the year with everything else, and is the final word on the matter (as long as it's accurate). So even though you and I may both feel that we’ve given them enough already, a balance-due at this point means we officially didn’t have enough withheld.
