No, you cannot enter the 2021 solar installation on your 2022 but if you have a carryover from 2021 then this will be entered on your 2022 tax return.
Yes, you will have to amend your 2021 tax to enter the solar installation. Please see How to amend a tax return for instructions. Please see Where's My Amended Return? to check the status of your amended return.
Please follow these steps to enter the carryover on your 2022 tax return (if applicable) :
- Log into TurboTax
- Search for "energy improvements"
- Click on “Jump to energy improvements"
- Continue until you get to the "Do You Have a 2021 Home Energy Credit to Carry Forward?" screen and answer "Yes".
- Enter the carryover amount
