Get your taxes done using TurboTax
The $1,083 may be a return of the amount of California tax withheld from your pay. It may also include the California Earned Income Tax Credit (Cal EITC).
If I understand your question, you changed your California income to $0 and are getting a refund of $1,083. If you report $0 California income, then you will owe no tax, so you will get back everything in Box 17 of your W-2.
If you have dependents, you may also receive Cal EITC.
You may be eligible for a California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) up to $3,417 for tax year 2022 as a working family or individual earning up to $30,000 per year.
