You have several options. First the easiest, try using a "0" for his prior year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). If that doesn't work find a copy of his return from last year. That could be from his records/account or he can get an online transcript from the IRS using this link. You are looking for the amount on line 11 on the TY 2021 form 1040.
