What do you mean, a dead account? Closed accounts remain on your credit report for 10 years, along with your payment history. If the account is now closed but when it was open it showed you paid on time, that helps your credit. If an account is closed now but the history shows you did not pay on time, that will of course hurt your credit, but that's how it goes.
