credit card suggestion failed

I applied for a Discover credit card due to your suggestion that I had a fair chance of being approved.  I have no missed payments for over 5 years (100% paid ontime) and i have 5 other credit cards and a line of credit in perfect order.  Is this not a scam to actually do harm to one's credit by recommending a fare chance approval for a card that is rejected.  It will take months to recover this losx.

I have no idea how the recommendations are made or why you were declined.  The “hard check” in your credit file will cause a slight hit to your score regardless of whether you are approved or denied.  Opening a new credit line will also lower your score, at least at first, since having more credit available to borrow makes you look like a riskier client to the next lender.  (Remember, a credit score is just one tool used to help the next lender you apply for decide whether or not to advance credit.)
