ROOM AND BOARD- WHERE?

Education expenses are tied to Form 1098-T. If you have two Form 1098-Ts, TurboTax will ask about expenses for each one.

A second reason – scholarships. If Box 5 is smaller than Box 1 then none of the money would go towards room and board so TurboTax will not bring up the Room and Board screens.

Room & board (R&B) are not qualified expenses for tax free scholarships or the tuition credit.  R&B is qualified for a 529/ESA plan distribution.  If you enter a 1099-Q, you will get the R&B screen later in TT. 

To get the screen to enter Room & Board, answer yes when asked if you have book expenses.
