1098-T form question

Hello,

I Graduated from College about a year and a half ago, but I am still paying Student loans and was wondering if I am still eligible for a 1098-T form i received one last year will I get one this year? I know I am eligible for the 1098-E form but am i still eligible for 1098-T

No.   If you graduated, you are not going to receive a 1098T for paying tuition, etc.   You will receive a 1098E for your student loan, and you can enter the interest you paid for the loan.

A.  No. To be eligible for an education tax credit, you must have taken the class and paid for it in the same tax year.*  So, back when you were taking classes, you (or your parents) were eligible for a credit, even if you were paying for it with money from student loans.

 

*There is one exception: if you pay, in 2023,  for classes starting early in 2024, you may claim the tuition credit on your 2023 tax return.
