Business codes are used by the IRS to categorize your business for statistical purposes only. The code you enter won't affect the outcome of your tax return.

TurboTax Online

When inputting information about your business in TurboTax Online, TurboTax will automatically select your business code. Once you've input all the information for your business you can review your business information.

Here's how to update your business code:

  • In Wages & Income, go to Self-employment income and expenses, and select Add/Edit.

  • Under your business information, select Edit.

  • Under Business summary, select Edit next to Your [business name] info

  • In the Tax Details section, select Edit under Business code.

  • Update your business code on the Let’s look up your business code screen.
