Last year me and my daughter were claimed as dependents. This year I filed myself and my daughter but my federal return is still processing. If they pass the third stimulus before my refund is finish processing, will they (the person who claimed us last year) get the third stimulus for us or will I receive it?
Most likely since you have already filed your return you will receive the third stimulus payment if it is signed into law. If you do not receive the 3rd stimulus payment then you might be able to claim it on your 2021 tax return.
As of now to be eligible for stimulus payments you need to be a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien in 2020 and have a Social Security number that is valid for employment.
You cannot be claimed as a dependent by someone else to be eligible.
It will be reduced if your 2020 adjusted gross income (AGI) is more than:

Just keep in mind that the 3rd stimulus has not yet been enacted into law, and could change.
question, how will it effect me and others if the payment tries to go into the wrong account or comes back? Example, I changed bank accounts after the first stimulus, so when IRS tried to deposit, it bounced back. However, since I had it updated in turbo tax there was the email link where I had to update my information with turbotax as they were working with the IRS to redirect missed payments. So, will this be the same thing for the third stimulus payments OR will the IRS have updated banking information from the tax preparer on file from those whom it went to closed accounts and worked with tax preparers such as turbo tax to get it rerouted?
Also, if the IRS has not processed my 2020 taxes yet, will they go off the processed 2019 taxes on file since my 2020 taxes have been filed, but they haven't been processed yet.
Thanks,
@skallsen81 If your 2020 return has not yet been Accepted when the IRS begins sending out the Third Stimulus Payments, they may use the info from your 2019 return.
If that account is closed, you may get a check. Since you have updated your account, though, you should not have a problem receiving the payment.

Last time I received a stimulus check, the IRS deposited my check into a wrong bank account and Turbo Tax/Intuit made a deposit into my bank account on behalf of the IRS. I am concerned if the IRS has my correct banking information for my stimulus payment and for my tax refund.
I’m having the same exact problem. During the second stimulus I had to update my bank information via TurboTax email. I received the second 600.00 deposit. The issue is that the get my payment shows the third is being deposited into the wrong account on Wednesday the 17th.
Same here! I had to use the tool to update my bank info. I got an email from turbotax saying if I used the tool, that is the bank account being used, but it's not true. Get My Payment shows the old account, not the new one I put into the tool. I'm hoping the irs just isn't updating the site.
Unfortunately, the information submitted in the portal will not be used by the IRS for this third round of stimulus payments. If you have not yet, file the 2020 tax return as soon as possible with any corrections.
The IRS will use the latest information they have in your file which will be:
If the bank account is closed, a paper check will be mailed to the last known address.

Good Morning,
I filed my 2020 taxes and both were received and accepted by the state and Federal. However, when I look on the Get My Payment site for the stimulus package it says "needs more information" or I do not qualify. I most certainly qualify and I am not sure what information they need at this point since state and federal were both approved and accepted back in February. Everyone I know even those who have yet to do their taxes has gotten their checks. I am not sure what else to do here.
This link continues to be updated as information becomes available. This information is provided by the IRS - Third Stimulus FAQ
I filed and got my refund today is March 17, 2021 and I still haven't got my third stimulus check why is that
Check the IRS Get My Payment tool to see whether a payment has been or will be processed.
What we do not know is how quickly the IRS will update your stimulus information after your 2020 Federal 1040 tax return is filed, accepted and refund issued.
This TurboTax Help states:
You don’t need to do anything to get your stimulus check. The IRS will determine eligibility based on your last tax return, either 2019 or 2020, and will likely send your payment to the bank account where your tax refund was deposited.
Since your 2020 Federal 1040 tax return was accepted, we do not know why the IRS has not issued your third stimulus payment.
Follow the TurboTax COVID Tax Center and the IRS Economic Impact Payment Information Center as further developments are received from the IRS.
I filed, got the approval email from both state and federal on February 27th. I have gone to the Get my Payment site and it says not available and needs more information. I then went on to Turbo Tax to see what may be the issue and it showed that both state and Federal were not yet accepted. I believed that to be a mistake since I received the email back in February that they were. I went out and then came back to check again and it then showed everything was accepted. My concern is that something was not sent correctly to the IRS this time around from Turbo Tax. I received both 1 and 2 immediately after they were signed by the President but this time around it shows basically that the IRS does not have the information. I have no idea what to do at this point since everyone I know got theirs and some didn't even do their taxes yet this year.
IRS is very busy right now. On top of processing 2020 tax returns, they are also trying to put the new law into the Tax Code and issue the Third Stimulus Check, notify all the software developers on how to make changes to their software once they have each part into the IRC, and they are also still processing Paper filed 2019 tax returns.
Here is the message from irs.gov:

I received this email from Turbo Tax on March 16, 2021:
The IRS has begun distributing a third round of stimulus payments.
We understand that you may have questions about where a third stimulus payment will be sent since you used the TurboTax Stimulus Portal to update your information with the second round of stimulus payments.
Here is what you can expect:
If you filed your 2020 tax return and it has been processed by the IRS your stimulus will be sent to the account you provided in that return.
If you provided updated banking information via the TurboTax Stimulus Portal for the second stimulus, that information was given to the IRS so they could deposit a third stimulus payment in that account.
If a bank account the IRS has on file is closed and your bank rejects the payment, the IRS will either:
Deposit your stimulus check into the bank account you entered into the TurboTax portal, or
Send your stimulus by check to the address they have on file for you within 14 days.
We understand that these funds are important to you and we are doing everything we can to help you get them as quickly as possible.
We encourage you to regularly check the IRS Get My Payment tool, here, for updated information on how you can expect to receive your stimulus payment. The payment status on that tool will not change more than once per day.
Thank you again for being a TurboTax customer.
Respectfully,
Sarah Kim

However, when I check the GET MY PAYMENT tool on the IRS website, there is a bank account listed that was closed a over a year ago. According to the tool, my funds were to be deposited TODAY. I received my 2nd Stimulus into an updated bank account that I was able to update through Turbo Tax. The email states that my UPDATED account is the one that will be used for my 3rd stimulus payment. Yet, that is NOT the account listed on the GET MY PAYMENT tool on the IRS website. So..... am I to assume the email is a blatant lie? Please Advise.
My 2019 income was too high to qualify for this third (2021) stimulus check. My 2020 income is lower than the threshold, so I do indeed qualify. But I'm also reading that one should wait to file 2020 if they received unemployment, since the first $10,200 will not be taxable. Is it better to file today to get the third stimulus check (if it's not too late and the IRS has already submitted my 2019 numbers?) and then ammend my return, OR wait? Thanks!
Unfortunately, the IRS has not yet provided guidance to TurboTax regarding how to handle the new law which states that he first $10,200 of UI will not be taxable. We are aware that this is frustrating but please check back daily, as TurboTax will make updates as soon as they are available. If you file today there is no guarantee that it would trigger the third stimulus check.
So I guess no one saw my question.... it’s just being ignored huh.? Wow.
I received the same email. Then got a different answer on Twitter. The one on Twitter said the IRS will not be using the information that was entered in for the second stimulus. I don’t think they know what’s going on. When I gave them the information I assumed my information was updated. That’s definitely not the case. Yet they had confirmed that the IRS had all the correct information. Scared to file my taxes during all this.
It’s been over a week now and the IRS still shows mine was deposited into the wrong account. It doesn’t take a week for a bank to reject it. I’ve talked to my old bank they weren’t much help at all so now what am I supposed to do. I bet my taxes this yea won’t be done turbo tax I promise you that.
Regarding the email, TurboTax was telling you what they understood to be in place at that time, but they do not control the IRS. The IRS is doing their best on updating their records, but while they are not updated, they have not choice but to revert to what is on file.
Unfortunately, at this time, treat it as if the information submitted in the portal will not be used by the IRS for this third round of stimulus payments.
The IRS will use the latest information they have in your file which will be:
If the bank account is closed, a paper check will be mailed to the last known address. It takes time for it to be rejected, returned to the IRS, get the address on file, issue a replacement check and mail the check.
They are otherwise processing millions of returns, issuing and in some cases reprocessing millions of checks.

My stimulus was supposed to be be deposited into my old account on the 17 to the wrong account. The bank returned it and it now says that it will be deposited on the 25th the problem is that it’s again going to the wrong account
