You probably received a 5071-C Letter IRS ID verification

The IRS continually monitors Theft issues on returns that might have fraudulent activity.  A letter will then be sent to the address of that person.  It may be that someone else tried to use your SSN.

You will need to follow the instructions in the letter from the IRS, it depends on the information they are requesting from you.

The below information, is directly from the IRS website:

What happens after I verify online or after I call?

We’ll continue processing your return. It will take approximately nine weeks to process.

 5071C Letter

You will need to contact the IRS directly, if you have questions regarding the information they are requesting.

How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?

Note:

You will need to follow the prompts in order to speak to an IRS agent. There is a high call volume this time of year.

When calling the IRS do NOT choose Option 1.

Choose Option 2 after you choose the language.

Then Press 1

Then Press 3

Then Press 2, it will then transfer you to an agent.
