My offset payment is... Missing???
Hello. I filed taxes end of Feb early March. I received a letter on March 11th saying that my taxes were intercepted to pay back child support. On March 24th the payment was applied to my back child support and appeared on the child support website. My child's mother hasn't received anything yet, and today is September 25th, over/past the six month period that they hold offsets for. I filed as head of household (not joint) and there was no injured spouse or anything else that should extend the hold period.
The offset phone number says it was sent to child support in March. Child support says that they haven't received anything yet. TOP said to give child support the trace number, but child support had no use for it.
At first I thought maybe it got sent to someone else by mistake. But then why/how'd it show up on my account on the child support website? I'm not being investigated by the IRS that I know of, so I have no idea where this offset payment went, who has it now, or when my child's mother is going to receive it. It's over $9000 and not like they don't need it. What can I do now? Who can I call, what can I ask, how do I figure out what's going on? TOP and child support are no help at all, and I fear that somehow they just stole my money.
My child's mother has shown me her entire transaction history for the card that she gets child support payment on, and it never was sent to her I'm 100% sure. I can't think of anything else that'll help anyone help me with this, but hopefully someone might have experienced this too?
TurboTax has no involvement whatsoever with your offset refund that was seized for child support. This is a matter for you to sort out with the IRS and the agency that enforces the child support order. TurboTax gets no information from the IRS after you file your tax return. No one at TurboTax knows that the refund was offset and cannot find out anything about it. Sorry.

NOTE: You can contact the IRS Treasury Offset Program Call Center at 1-800-304-3107 to ask if they have an offset for you on file. TurboTax would not have that information.

TurboTax does not receive feedback from the IRS regarding money that was offset from your refund. If you owed back taxes or child support, you will receive a letter of explanation from the IRS in several weeks. The WMR site will contain a message regarding your offset. It is also possible that the IRS caught a mistake you made and reduced your refund.
